Returning Catholics

Returning Catholics Program for Returning and Inactive Catholics

Welcome

    • Are you an inactive Catholic thinking about practicing your faith again?
    • Were you raised Catholic but seldom come to Church anymore?
    • Do you feel separated from the Church and want to know more?
    • Have you felt unwelcome, uncomfortable, or just unsure where to begin?

About the Returning Catholics Program, here, at SSJ:

This unique ministry helps to provide a caring and supportive environment to welcome inactive and returning Catholics back to our parish community and to the Catholic faith.  No matter how long you’ve been away, no matter what the reason, you are welcome to come home.

Sts. Simon & Jude offers a welcoming, safe place for inactive Catholics to explore returning to the practice of their faith, in the company of practicing Catholics, who've also been away and returned. SSJ's Returning Catholics Program provides a unique opportunity to share your own story, hear other's spiritual journeys, and talk about issues of faith in an open, respectful, nonjudgmental manner.

Each of the eight (8) sessions models SSJ's Small Faith Groups and is inclusive, supportive, and recognizes with honesty the issues Catholics face.

The Returning Catholics Program will be offered twice each year - once in the Spring and again in the Fall.  The Programs’ sessions are scheduled for Thursdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The sessions are based on "Landings", an approach which has been well received and highly regarded in our parish by Returning Catholics.

Returning Catholics Program sessions' agenda:
  1. Welcome, "Checking In," and Opening Prayer

  2. Spiritual journey storytelling.  Members of the Welcome Team, Returned Catholics, share their personal faith story all are invited, given the opportunity, to share their personal faith story;

  • Testimonials
    • “I got involved with Landings because I had stopped going to Mass and wanted to remember what it felt like to love going to church again. Everyone involved was so kind and welcoming, and I truly believe that the spirit of God was present in this experience. Landings was life-changing, and it helped me to find myself in the mess of college. I feel so blessed that this program has helped me find a way back.” Paige, Ohio State Newman Center, Columbus, OH

    • “Landings is evangelization, but not in the way I used to think of it…it made a profound difference in my life.” Matt, Austin, TX

    • “I was amazed at the Church’s welcoming stance when I began Landings four years ago after being away from the Church over 30 years.” Lee, St. Dominic’s Church, San Francisco, CA
